The sound of his voiceJay Nordlinger You know how, when someone calls, you say, “It’s so good to hear your voice”? Well, it was really, really good to hear the voice of a caller of mine last week: It was Jian-li Yang, just returned to the United States after five years as a political prisoner in the PRC. I hadn’t heard his voice since 2001; was not entirely sure I’d ever hear it again. He seems his usual, magnificent, invaluable self.
