Yang Jianli's Family seeks donationTsang Waiyin Since the U.S. based Dissident Yang Jianli was arrested in China in April last year, China has held jim incommunicado. his family member have not received a written notice and hence are unable to hire a defense lawyer for him. Recently, in a written response to questions from the New York Times, China's State Council asserted that the Beijing Public Security Bureau "has, in accordance with the legal procedure, informed his relatives in China." For the first time, it is indicated that the authorities "discovered that Yang was suspected of other criminal activities". Based on this letter, Yang Jianli's brother and sister went to Beijing and signed a contract with lawyer, Mr. Mo Shaoping. Mr. Mo has requested to meet his client but was rejected. According to the Chinese law, he would not be able to make another request until two months later. Yang's wife Christina Fu says, after more than 320 days, the Chinese government does not allow him to meet any family members, nor issue a written notice of his arrest. This clearly violates the law of its own. She says, since his arrest, she has to take all the fanancial responsibilities for their family. She is unable cover all the legal cost. Therefore, she asks that the society helps her by making a donation. The China 21 Century Foundation has established a special account. Please send donation to 658 Washington Street, Brookline MA02446, payable to The China 21 Century Foundation. Make sure that you write a note that this is for "Defense for Jianli".
