As you know, Dr. Yang suffered a stroke in prison in July of 2004. On a recent visit by his brother and sister, he reported that he has continued to experience numbness on his left side and his vision has also been impaired. And he is not receiving adequate medical care. As an American, who enjoys the privileges of freedom and democracy, I care deeply about Dr. Yang and strongly support his cause for a free and democratic China. I implore you, as Secretary of State, to double your efforts to press for Dr. Yang Jianli’s immediately release, particularly in light of his current serious medical condition.
